HETTY HODGSON
THEATRE DIRECTOR
FACILITATING
Facilitation and work with young people is something I want to develop to be at the heart of my practice. I have ran workshops and set on panels for organisations such as Guildhall School of Speech and Drama & Alexandra Palace as well as schools and youth groups across the UK.
Over the past year, with Pigfoot, I have co-developed two workshops alongside which we developed alongside our VAULT Festival run of 'How To Save A Rock', and are touring with the show in Spring 2021, these workshops are:
1. Climate warriors! Climate geography made fun for 7-13 year-olds - Targetting Geography KS2 learning points, employing theatre-making exercises to encourage children's confidence & enjoyment in writing, and performance. We make space for participants’ concerns about the crisis & equip them with ways to be more sustainable, leaving participants more confident & empowered!
2. Carbon-neutral theatre-making - A practical workshop for all theatre-makers keen to create theatre without a carbon footprint. We explore exercises to bring sustainable practices into the theatre-making process – from performer-led live sound design to powering shows by bicycle!
Our commission from Camden People's Theatre to make 'HOT IN HERE (a carbon-neutral dance party) has allowed us to undergo a long term, sustained engagement with a group of young people at Acland Burghley school in Camden.
Facilitation is something I want to take beyond my work with Pigfoot - to make work led by Young People, to empower voices, facilitate connection, encourage hope & allow teenagers voices, angers, thoughts, fears & joys (etc.) to be heard.
