HETTY HODGSON
THEATRE DIRECTOR
BEATS
By Kieran Hurley
In 1994 the Criminal Justice Act effectively outlawed raves, banning public gatherings around amplified music characterised by ‘the emission of a succession of repetitive beats’
Featuring a live DJ and psychedelic 90s-inspired visuals, BEATS tells a one teenagers story of rebellion, apathy and the irresistible power of gathered youth.
'A play for your eyes, ears and soul ... An unstoppable momentum that never dropped throughout the entire play'. - The Palatinate
'It’s a complete multimedia experience... Every choice feels intentional. On the few occasions where the music stops, it’s as if your heartbeat stops with it.' - DST First Night
I wrote a bit about BEATS for the National Student Drama Festival HERE & enjoy our banging playlist (if I say so myself) HERE
